Frequently asked questions

Why do doors stick or open with difficulty?+
The most common causes: worn or loose hinges (the door has “sagged”), a wooden door swollen from damp, a worn lock, or a warped door frame. Most cases are fixed by adjustment or replacing a single part — without replacing the whole door.
What is the difference between repairing PVC and wooden doors?+
For PVC doors, repair is usually simpler and faster — hinge adjustment and seal replacement. Wooden doors often need seasonal compensation (wood swells in summer, shrinks in winter), lubrication and sometimes light work on the frame. For both types, the warranty includes an on-site check of the result.
Can doors that don’t sit tightly and let in cold be repaired?+
Yes, this is the most typical reason people contact us. The two most common problems: the hinges have sagged (the door is too low) or the seal is worn. Usually adjustment and a seal replacement are enough for the door to close tightly again.
Can all locks be repaired, or do some need replacing?+
Most locks can be repaired — cleaning, lubrication and adjustment often solve the problem. If the cylinder is worn or the mechanism is physically damaged, only the relevant part is replaced. A full lock replacement is only needed in old, heavily worn cases.
Do door problems get worse in winter?+
Yes. In the cold, metal and aluminium hinges contract, which can change how the door fits. Wooden doors usually fit better in winter (the wood shrinks) but can swell in spring and summer. Adjustment twice a year — in autumn and spring — is recommended, especially for wooden doors.

A simple test before calling a technician

How to tell in 1 minute whether your doors need adjustment

Close the door and look at the gap between the leaf and the frame from inside. If the gap is uneven — narrower at the top, wider at the bottom or vice versa — it means the hinges have sagged and the door needs adjusting. A second test: try to lock the door without extra pressure. If the lock doesn’t engage first time, the door’s fit is off. Both symptoms are fixed by a simple adjustment.
